21 Oct Manufacturing Day Celebration a Success!
Congratulations to all of the students, teachers, parents, customers and community members who visited MetPlas on October 21st in celebration of Manufacturing Day. Over 120 visitors experienced presentations, tours of the facility, food trucks and some fun giveaways. The goal of the day was to raise awareness of the amazing career opportunities that are available in manufacturing. Per the US Dept. of Commerce, “Manufacturing Day is an opportunity for manufacturers to highlight their work and their workers and to energize a future pipeline of skilled workers. An annual event that occurs on the first Friday of October, MFG DAY is an occasion during which manufacturers open their doors to showcase the potential of modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers.”
One of the more anticipated moments of the day arrived when a custom-fabricated, ballistic polycarbonate battle cage was presented to the Freeport High School Robotics team. MetPlas fabricated the 3/8” thick polycarbonate exterior of the arena using a CNC router. The support components were made from UHMW and Aluminum Extrusion. This arena will provide area high school teams a place to safely test new robot designs and weapon operation to ensure their bots are worthy of competition. The Butler Eagle provides a great write-up of this event here https://www.butlereagle.com/20221022/manufacturers-confab-to-create-robot-arena-for-freeport-students-2/
MetPlas thanks all of the visitors for their enthusiasm and interest in manufacturing. Thanks also to JV Manufacturing and EPD Electronics who also participated in the event and provided more perspectives on manufacturing careers. Many companies have hosted manufacturing day events in recent years but none have coordinated their event with multiple companies in order to provide a diverse range of experiences for all the participants. The day was a resounding success for everyone involved.
